Dylan Espinoza is the First Male Cross country Athlete to Qualify to Regionals Back to Back in Over 10 Years

-Dylan Espinoza returned from regionals, second year in a row he made it to regionals. In Lubbock, He finished 79th, at 16.51 on a difficult course and 35 degree weather. His district time was 17.24. Dylan a senior who is trying to enjoy his last year and give it all in the things he loves doing, sports.

The Cross Country coach, Coach Vasquez, feels joy and satisfaction for Dylan because of his outcome during the past seasons.

“Well we’re happy and excited that he repeated as a regional qualifier. It’s good for him and for his future,” Mr. Vasquez said.

Coach Vasquez feels proud of himself for preparing and building up such an amazing athlete like Dylan.

“Dylan is an extremely dedicated athlete, very very hard worker, and extremely coachable. I hoped that he would succeed to regionals, and I was not disappointed,” Mr. Vasquez said.

It’s been a while since a student has gone to regionals two times in a row.

“I really can’t say, it has been a while since this happened,” Mr. Vasquez said.

Coach Vasquez was extremely happy with Dylan’s outcome, he sees great potential in him and hopes he can get far with his talent.

His coach still wants him to be active, even with Cross Country being over. Coach Vasquez still wants Dylan to participate in another sport.

“We’re looking forward to track season and hopefully he can repeat his success there,” Mr. Vasquez said.

Dylan finished 79th place, but for him, that was one of the best things to accomplish.

“The results were better than I expected because I was able to beat my personal best,” Dylan said.

The 2 times regional athlete is very motivated during any part of the season, even in practice. He always finds a way to surpass his limits.

“What motivated me to go to regionals was the thought that I had to improve within me, beat my personal best, and to not disappoint my school,” Dylan said.

Even out of the city, Dylan still gets recognized by most of the people around him, by his skills and his school.

“Precisely in Lubbock plenty of people recognized me because I am from Bowie and I made it to regionals,” Dylan said.

At the end of the day, sports is all about commitment and sportsmanship, focus on yourself and wish the best for others.

“My experience in regionals was very nice because I was able to meet multiple people from different schools,” Dylan said.
