The movie is based off the events of Netflix’s show “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir” (Available on Netflix and Disney Plus). The movie takes place between after season 3 before the upcoming season 4 of the animated show.

The movie is set in Paris, France and New York. The story is about a teenage girl named Marinette who struggles to live a normal life as a teenager and superhero as “Ladybug.” The journey is quite difficult for her, considering she has to keep her identity a secret. She fights alongside her superhero partner “Cat Noir” who is Adrien Agreste. They both have no idea who each is because they are both superhero miraculous holders and must keep their identities a secret (Spoiler: they know each other in real life but have no idea they’re fighting alongside each other).

The Miraculous is an object of power that allows them to inherent powers thanks to their Kwami, a supernatural entity older than time that allows and helps miraculous holders save people. Like those who have been “akumatized” in other words held hostage mentality against their will by evil miraculous holder Hawk moth. He gives dark power to people and forces people to try and defeat Ladybug and Cat Noir for their Miraculous so he can be the only powerful ruler of the world.

Ladybug (Marinette), who hold the miraculous earrings of Creation, and Cat Noir (Adrien), who holds the miraculous ring of destruction. Since they both hold the 2 most powerful and important Miraculous, if someone would merge the Miraculous, they in theory could have one wish and become rulers of life as we know it, descending the world into chaos.

Oh, and the main two characters Marinette (Ladybug) and Adrien (Cat Noir) are unknowingly stupidly in love with each other in real life, they go to the same school and are friends. But due to the secret identity thing, Ladybug (Marinette) and Cat Noir (Adrien) don’t know that.

Finally, they’re a love square, hexagon and what seems like a circle sometimes. I’ll just explain the square, So Marinette (Ladybug) is in love with Adrien (Cat Noir) she doesn’t know he’s Cat Noir. Now Adrien (Cat Noir) is in love with Ladybug (Marinette) but he doesn’t know that Ladybug is Marinette. So, Marinette is just a friend to Adrien and is in love with Ladybug while Cat Noir is just a friend to Ladybug while she’s in love with Adrien.

Now onto the actual story of the movie (Miraculous: New York Special 62min/Available on Disney Plus). Marinette and Adrien go to the same school in Paris, France and are going on a class trip to New York because of an American-French friendship week event. Both have trouble going due to their personal family problems and secret superhero duties.

At first Adrien isn’t allowed to go so Marinette manages to convince his strict father into letting him go but he isn’t aware of the information yet. So, Ladybug (Marinette) now excited to go finds Cat Noir to tell him she won’t be able to protect Paris for a few Days and ask for his help in keeping the city safe while she is gone. Cat Noir (Adrien) agrees to help her considering he thinks he won’t be able to go. As Cat Noir (Adrien) goes home his father tells him he’s allowed to go on the school trip and tells him Marinette is the one to thank. Adrien is somewhat happy he gets to go to New York with his friends, but also a bit stressed and disappointed because he doesn’t want to disappoint ladybug because of him being in love with her.

In the end, they both go to the New York class trip by plane chaperoned by their teacher and principal. But hours before, Marinette and Adrien’s Best friends Alya (Marinette’s BFF) and Nino (Adrien’s BFF) deliberately try to fix up Marinette and Adrien because they both suspect their best friends are made for each other. So, they both create a secret plan to make them notice each other.

While in New York, Alya and Nino meet 2 other teen superhero heroines. The 2 American girls suspect that Marinette and Adrien are made for each other as well, and agree to help out Alya and Nino fix up their besties. The plan goes in motion but is interrupted multiple times by Hawkmoth, the ultimate enemy of Ladybug and Cat Noir who pops up in New York casually at the same time they do. Then throughout the whole movie Ladybug and Cat Noir friendship has a bit of a falling out.

In conclusion, I recommend this film to those with open mind to watch this to forget the fact that the film is meant for younger audiences and to know that this film can be watched and enjoyed by anyone of any age. The film (series) has a perfect balance of action, adventure, love and suspense; it gave me nostalgic feeling of my childhood.

Personally, I loved the film and might even watch again right now. I’d recommend for those who haven’t seen the films or series to with the series first. Watching the movie doesn’t really spoil you much but it sure is helpful to watch the series. But If I’m being honest at first, I’ve only actually watched a few episodes of the series scrambled but still managed to understand and have excitement to watch the film. However, I did finish the entire series chronologically the next 3 days then again watched to movie and enjoyed the experience even more.
