Salvador Balcorta was announced as the 2018 Segundo Barrio Person of the Year. An event was held on the April 26 to commemorate the recognition, with a parade followed right after April 28 at the Sacred Heart Church.

Balcorta, a man with a vision of a bigger and better future for the streets of Segundo Barrio. Going through a first hand experience on living a life surrounded by drugs, gangs, and poverty, Balcorta wanted a change.

One that would not just change his life, but thousands of other lives, too. He began a program called Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe, alongside many other big names such as Father Rahm, Nino Aguilera, and others. Salvador Balcorta has played his part as CEO of La Fe for over 25 years, bringing a change to the community of Segundo Barrio. Mr. Balcorta brought many sort of aids to the table when it came to helping the people of the barrio. Reaching not only the recognition of the people locally but even reaching state and national recognition.

“In order for us to be studying, we have to be in good health, in order for us to practice sports, we have to be in good health, in order for us to be healthy, we have to be in good health. La Fe has to offer so much,” Mr. Carlos Aguilera said.

La Fe makes a huge impact even to this day when it comes to aiding the people, and as Aguilera stated, “La Fe is now the heart of Segundo Barrio.”
