Construction Takes Over Athletics, Causes Delays

The construction at Bowie High School is easily seen, from the front of the school to the very end. The due date for the football field has been setback since construction and now because of the recent vandalism, the field is undergoing another delay, the softball field is upgrading its backstop and other things as well, and the new baseball field is currently still in progress.

According to Coach Camacho, varsity baseball coach, the due date for the new baseball field was pushed from Sept. 7 to Sept. 16. All that the new baseball field needs is the center field wall to be up and running.

“We’re not having any practices yet, all we’re doing is running and weights. It usually does not affect the team because we don’t get on the field in the off season so the date is not affecting us right now,” coach Camacho said.

The softball field is under construction as well, by upgrading its lights, new fencing and a new backstop. Although there is no exact finishing date, the Softball field should be running no later than January where the lady bears plan having the Bowie vs. Loretto tournament, according to varsity softball coach Stephanie Quintero. The backstop was designed by coach Quintero and with help of one of the athletic directors in the district.

“Im very excited for the season to start I have 40 plus girls, it is going to be a way better season than last year, I do see us being successful this season,” Quintero said.

There are no recent updates on the football field, however, according to football Coach Robert Padilla, there will be a meeting in which the company will be able to discuss the extended due date and what they have done so far. Although the Growler hasn’t heard back about what was discussed, the day of the meeting was Tuesday Sept. 11.

“The information they are going to give us is only for the track part, they barely got workers for the field part I think (sept 9). They’re still kind of looking at what they need to fix before they can tell us how long it is going to take,” coach Padilla said.
