After at least a 12-year absence, the Homecoming parade had a great meaning for the school.

This edition took place where the school started: at the current Guillen Middle School and ended back there.

To begin the parade were participants from the feeder schools such as Hart’s cheer team and Guillen’s soccer, tennis and reading club.

It also took place just after school, at 4:30 p.m. to beat the sun from going down but it was also right after the Homecoming assembly.

“The parade had a lot of spirit from the people that attend. The time is something that makes it kind of difficult for the reason that it was to hurry after our assembly,” Sofia Carreon, 12, said.

Bowie’s JROTC, band, cheer, mariachi, dance and culinary arts programs completed the 35-minute long parade that went to Campbell St. and back down Father Rahm.

The school food truck also attended this event. It is something new and in its first year. Mr. Christopher Puga is the person in charge of the food truck. Many students joined, which is something that really improves the school and student’s goals.

Moises Castorena, 12, joined the food truck and was on their Wizard of Oz-themed float.

“It’s a good course to join and for one side, you get fun with classmates, entertain and get improved in your skills of cooking. Most of the (students) that also joined like to cook and it’s something that we all like a lot,” Castorena said.

Students that graduated a long time ago also attend this parade, and most spectators were just residents of Segundo Barrio that heard the honking and peaked outside to see what was going on.

“The parade was awesome. Each person that attend demonstrated their spirit, walking proudly through all around downtown, but it will be better if more people would attend,” Michael Juarez, 12, said.
