Future New Tech

Joel Rodriguez, U.S. History teacher, hopes to make them see that New Tech in high school is the same as New Tech in elementary.

“When we’re in elementary we learn through having fun, we play, we color, we sing, we do things in groups, we want them to come here and see that we do the same thing, we create, we build, we color, we act, we work in groups”, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez achieved his accomplishment of making the kids know that whatever they do on New Tech, is similar to the New Tech we have here and that it’s based on being in groups, creating art, sculptures, creating color, collaborating with people and having fun.

“What I’m most proud of is the culture that our students at New tech have been raised on for two years and I’m proud to show these kids that culture and hopefully they can walk away feeling like they want to achieve what we have accomplished so far,” Rodriguez said.

After New tech elementary showed up, Joel was delighted with the kids and got to at least show them that New tech on both sides is pretty similar and that everything they learn throughout their years will help them through their high school.

Lilian Ortega, 3rd grade teacher, was happy to see the kids faces when they got to do fun activities Oso New Tech had for them.

“We are doing this so that kids, since this school is new tech elementary and we want them to learn that whatever they do in elementary it will grow with them and they are going to develop their skill in high school as well,” Ms. Ortega said.

Mrs. Ortega throughout the year has been showing them project based learning and guiding them through the whole thing so that they can learn and have more practice so that they be ready to proceed to high school in few years.

“I think it went great, the students are having a great time. I think we are all a little bit tired since we had a long night yesterday and then today we have a lot of energy,” Mrs. Ortega said.

Alejandra Lopez, 11, helped organize the event for New Tech and was helping out throughout the event by guiding the kids into different New Tech rooms.

“Well, my favorite part about this was that the kids enjoyed themselves with the activities we had planned for them and that they liked our school,” Lopez said.

Lopez’s first impression was that after the event she will get tired by taking care of all the kids and taking them to different stations. But at the end, she knew kids will walk out knowing that they continue doing the same thing when they get to high school.

Lopez says that she would help do something like this again because she really enjoys making people happy and she liked making all the kids happy. “Yes, I enjoyed this because it’s not every day that I get to see little kids have fun and be part of our pride,” Lopez said.

Lopez says that the hardest part about setting up was worrying if the kids would like what they had for them.

“My last impression of this was that kids walked out of Bowie knowing what we are and who we are and the stuff we do for them to find it interesting is nice,” Lopez said.
