Sergio Cardona, 12, said being in two teams can be difficult because he has practice from 3-4 p.m. every day after school, and every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with Santos.

“It’s tiring and sometimes difficult because I practice with Santos in Juárez, and there are times where it seems difficult to get to Santos thanks to the time I get off school,” Cardona said.

Jared Franco, 11, is a teammate at Bowie. Franco gave his opinion about choosing between two teams.

“I’ll prefer an independent team, not the school one because the soccer team does not get much attention or help from the school,” Franco said.

Cardona confessed that his coach from Bowie doesn’t know his situation. Cardona keeps this to himself and his family who support him.

“To be honest, he doesn’t know about my situation,” Cardona said.

Cardona prefers playing and training with his close friends at Bowie. He wants to spend his years as a soccer player with the people he knows.

“I prefer to play at Bowie because I’m playing and practicing with my closer friends,” Cardona said.

Franco said that he would stay in only one team to stay focused and dedicate the time to one team only. He is thinking more of getting better as a player, and Cardona wants to play comfortably.

“If I was Sergio, I would have stayed only in one team to keep higher focus,” Franco said.

Speaking about his situation, his dad doesn’t agree with his situation. Cardona’s dad says he can get injured because all of the things he does.

“My dad isn’t agreeing with my situation, because he says that it’s to harsh for me. I can get harmed or something like that thanks to the excessive efforts that I’m doing,” Cardona said.

Franco says that Cardona is an important piece for the team.

“Yes, we do need him, he is a fast and strong defender,” Franco said.

Cardona says that Santos has better results than the school’s team. They have won important games, and have won an international tournament.

“Better results. I can say that Santos has better results. We have beaten good teams and got second place on an international tournament,” Cardona said.
