Bowie High School will take center stage for a few minutes when the #MarchForTruth, which will feature former Congressman Beto O’Rourke and current Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, will begin at 5 p.m. Feb. 11 at the school.

President Donald Trump announced he would be hosting a rally Feb. 11 in El Paso during his State of the Union last Tuesday. As the event neared, counter protests were planned but the most notable event occurring is the #MarchForTruth, which was even reported by national news outlets.

The #MarchForTruth will take place at the same time and end just a few yards away from the County Coliseum. It will begin at Bowie and end at the Acosta Center on Delta St. It is scheduled to begin on San Marcial St. next to Bowie.

It is a peaceful event that is being led by Border Network for Human Rights, the Women’s March of El Paso,Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe, LULAC of El Paso and over 40 other organizations.

There are about 60 local musicians and 20 food trucks expected at the event’s end location.

School will close at 12 p.m. noon, tomorrow for students at Bowie, its feeder schools and the Jefferson community, too. Staff members must stay at school until 2 p.m.

President Trump made headlines when he falsely claimed El Paso was one of the most dangerous cities until the border fence was built in 2008.

Some Aztec yearbook staff members caught up with some students to ask a couple of questions about their opinion about the president’s visit.

  1. How do you feel about Trump coming?
  2. Do you plan on going to see him?
