Who’s Busier Than Him?
April 9, 2019
Christian Mendez, 12, is a student who joined many activities as long as he’s been in high school. Throughout his four years, he’s been part of NHS, Band, Golf, Student Council, Editor for the school website and still manages to do community service.
The thing is, he will be graduating in May with no choice but to leave all these activities. Being in many activities actually meant a lot to him. It was something he actually enjoyed doing, he actually liked being busy.
“Being part of several activities is fun and challenging since you have to learn time management and having a good commitment to your activities. I like being in activities to interact with my peers and having good memories,” Christian Mendez, 12, said.
Mendez wasn’t really great with time management when he first entered high school. As time passed, he improved so much on it and now he manages it well.
“I learned time management by talking to teachers about being in multiple activities to create agreement from one teacher to another and know when the activities starts and knowing when it ends,” Mendez said
Mendez started off with playing golf. He played the sport for four years straight. He stated that his best friend, Axel Rodriguez, actually forced him to join. Even after he was forced to join, he ended up liking the sport enough to have played it for as much as he was in high school.
Joining many activities didn’t just keep him busy. It was much more than just trying to join as much things as possible. Most activities he was a part of showed him things that he uses as an advantage today.
“I learned leadership from NHS, patience from golf, confidence and time management from band,” Mendez said.
As graduation day is coming up, most seniors get excited because they’re finally finishing school. Most look forward to receiving their diploma after all the hard work they’ve done.
Mendez might feel excited for his big day coming up, but he seems to have some mix emotions about graduating.
“I’m pretty depressed about it because I’m going to miss my friends and peers. I wished I would have joined more activities,” Mendez said
When Mendez graduates, he doesn’t plan on joining as much things once he enters college. He’ll soon walk away with his own experience he had in high school. It is something to cherish for the rest of your life.
“What I learned from high school is that it can be fun, stressful and it can be an adventure. It can also be fun when you have friends. If you don’t, you should join activities to make friends,” Mendez said.
