The main difference for the cheer team this year is they have more girls, which means they can do many more things compared to other years such as go to more state and local competitions.

What motivates me as a Co-Captain to cheer at each game is that we’re always cheerful and go with the motivation to cheer for my team in a game or even in a pep rally,” Federico Moncada, 12, said.

Moncada said that since there are 8 more girls this year on the cheer team now takes longer to learn a cheer routine just like it took a month to prepare to cheer for the homecoming event.

“If we have to do our hair it takes about 2 hours and if we don’t then it takes about 1 hour,” Katherine Baeza, 11, said.

Baeza said that the whole team all together takes a while to get ready to go out there and cheer at games or any other special occasion that they have.

“Seeing how all the teams have improved so much over the years it makes me feel like I can do so much better with them especially seeing what we’ve accomplished already so far and seeing those changes happen motivates me in making this team better,” coach Frances Rios said.

Coach Rios said that since the last four years they have been going to competitions and growing their team more and more each year and seeing those changes happen motivates her to make her team better and better each year.

“Its early morning and long nights to make sure that I’m ready. We have practice at 6:30 A.M., like yesterday we had volleyball at 6:30 P.M.  and we did not finish until 9:30 at night,” coach Rios said

Coach Rios said that being a cheer coach takes early mornings and long nights to make sure that she is ready and prepared for anything. She has to constantly make sure that she is ready for long days .

“This year our goal to be able to attend UTEP cheer competition in February,” coach Rios said.

Coach Rios said that in order to prepare for the UTEP cheer competition it usually takes them 3 months to prepare for that goal. She has another goal, have the same number or keep growing the team next year.
