As the last six games of the season come rolling in, the boys basketball team sit in a four-way tie for third place at 5-5 in district play.

“So far the season has been good. This is a new group of kids that have never really played together. We are working on building chemistry and learning how to play as a team,” head coach Daniel Martinez said.

The team this season is made up of athletes from three different grade levels, which means most of the players have never played together or have little chemistry between each other.

“Throughout the season we have gone through a lot together. In my opinion, the second go around should be better because we have learned how to play together,” small forward Daniel Martinez said.

After starting district play 2-1, the team went on a three-game losing streak, but quickly recaptured themselves, all while keeping themselves within the district playoff conversation.

“I feel great. I feel like this team is at the highest point its been all season and we definitely have momentum,” center Jacob Gutierrez said.

The team has won three of their last four, and will look to keep that momentum going as four of their final six games are on the road.

“We as a team feel very confident because we all know what our roles are and we know what it takes to be that competitive so we can finish the season off the way we want to,” point guard Alex Valdez said.

The team has a season-defining stretch coming up with a game against Andress, followed by Jefferson then three of their last four are against teams they are tied with: Chapin, El Paso and Canutillo.
