Closed lunch is making Bowie students hungry

Closed lunch has been a popular topic among students at Bowie High School.
The school decided that this year, we would not be allowed to leave during lunch for our safety. Some students report that they have friends from other schools who are allowed to go out for lunch.
“I preferred open lunch because I don’t like the cafeteria cuisine and its meals,” senior Luis Castaños said. Many other students could agree, because not everybody eats the cafeteria food during lunch.
Campus administrators didn’t specifically say why the rule was put in place. Some students believe it might be to prevent attendance problems.
“I think they decided to do close lunch because there was an attendance issue and they wanted to control it like that,” senior Ricardo Chavez said.
Many seniors are disappointed that they won’t be allowed to leave campus for lunch during their last year of high school. “I thought it was unfair because other schools are having open lunch and because not everyone likes the cafeteria food and the lines that you need to get food,” Castaños said.
Some students say they would like to change this rule, because it’s the last year for some of them and they would not experience their senior year fully.
Chavez offers a suggestion to keep everyone happy and in compliance with attendance rules: “What we could do is make people have lunch detention if they are not back before the bell rings to make all this normal again,” he said.

I think it’s a stupid act of Bowie, we already have a reputation of being the worst school and now we are the only episd school that are being kept inside campus during lunch time which actually make Bowie look as a joke. Administration doesn’t know how many kids starve during school hours. Many of the students here wake up and come to school with no breakfast at all and then they don’t eat because they don’t like the cafeteria food, so they end up not eating until they get home, this type of things can cause serious problems of health. Another thing that caught my attention is how is it fair that only teachers are allow to get out to enjoy lunch. As student here not only me but the entire school have been complaining about this situation since the school year started and the administration haven’t done anything, it is true we don’t now the real reason for this type of act but they could at least tell us why we are going through this to see if it is fair enough for the school to take our privilege of going out of campus for food.!

Closed lunch is probably one of the worst things to go on this year, this isn’t elementary or middle school it’s HIGH SCHOOL! Therefore meaning we’re responsible for what we do and decide what we want for lunch we aren’t kids anymore. Cafeteria lunch food isn’t the best and I don’t want to offend the lunch workers and the cooks we understand they work hard but most of us aren’t satisfied why do you think you have students that don’t eat at all or forcefully eat the food because they’re hungry and that’s the only option. Many students want to be free and comfortable not restricted to be in school and either choose to not eat or eat food they don’t want. Whatever the reason is on why we have closed lunch whether it’s attendance or “safety” there’s a solution we can all come up with to bring back open lunch. And this should really say something I know you administrators see us asking, we just really want it back.

The school need to open up the school and let us go out because theres lines that are all the way out side and like nahh that aint it frl and plus the food is not that good most if the students agree with me about this they just eat it because they are hungry and students are not even allow to sell chips so yeah open up the school.

It is boring being at school during lunch and the food sometimes it is bad which makes us not eat but that doesn’t matter to the school they only care that student get the meals so they can get money.
