Boys Basketball: Finding their Rhythm

The varsity boys basketball team is mostly made up of underclassmen this season. Coach, Daniel Martinez has been working on learning to work with the team.

“We have a lot of younger kids this year not only in the varsity team but in the other teams, too. They have come a long way,” Martinez said.

The team struggled at the beginning, they won the tournament at Cathedral and since then they’ve been winning.

Martinez said he wants the team to give it their all and keep working hard. Martinez also said, they practice every morning at 6:30 a.m. and they mostly work on defense.

“They get along really well during practices, gatherings, road trips and it helps a lot in the court,” Martinez said. Martinez also said, “The best thing about the team is all the kids like each others company, so they have good team chemistry, I think that makes things a lot more fun not only for the kids but also for the coaches knowing that they get along.”

Martinez said that basketball is a break away from reality, it gives you a chance to get out and just forget about everything, not have to worry about anything but basketball, it’s like an escape.

“What I’m most proud of is where we’re at right now, a lot of people give us a very good chance to be good and I think we’re a good basketball team, I think we can be better,” Martinez said.
