Students Who Work Double

Alejandra Lopez and Carlos Varela

For some students there’s more than school in their everyday lives. Some do sports, some do clubs, some stay after school, but some obtain a job.

Former student Kevin Villagrana, 12, works at the Mesa Whataburger but doesn’t enjoy working. Although he doesn’t enjoy working he admits that “it’s hard but it’s worth it” because he does it for his family, and is gaining experience.

It feels good to have my own money and not my parents money so I can buy my own stuff and they don’t have to buy me nothing.”

Also a Whataburger worker Christopher Garcia, 12, works at the Whataburger next to Bowie and this is his second job that’s why he has experience. I like the people that I work with I don’t think I dislike my job it’s pretty cool.”

Erick Sanchez, 12, uses his skills as a photographer to make money. “I currently work at American Eagle part time and I work myself as a photographer and I’ve had like around 3 jobs in the past.”

Julian Lopez,12, has had quite a few jobs but currently works at jack in the box.”I work to pay off my car and to help my mom and so my mom wont worry about me, money wise.” Julian has been committed and showed responsibility by paying his car.

Darlene Carrillo, 12, who’s has been working for quite a while now, works at Whataburger. “I always have a schedule ready and i let my boss know. I give them a copy of my schedule and make sure they understand that i cant work certain days.” “I’ve been working for 2 years so far.” As hard as it is to have a job and attend school darlene had managed to do both and been doing for quite a while now.

I always have a schedule ready and I let my boss know. I give them a copy of my schedule and make sure that they understand that I can’t work certain days. I work so that I can always have money with me and also so I can help my parents out. I’ve only had one job so far and that i the Whataburger next to Bowie. I’ve been working for 2 years so far.”

Well since work works my schedule, I just tell them I have school and I could work on Thursday, Saturdays and Sundays, so the Thursdays I just talk with my teachers and they agree with me so they let me go early. I work to pay off my car and to help my mom, so my mom wont worry about me, money wise. I work at Jack in the Box at Airway and Montana, that’s been my only job for now. Well, I’ve been working there for almost half a year.
