Sports can be time consuming, the Growler caught up with student to ask her how she deals with it.

Even though Sasha Chavez, 11, is only 17 years old, she acts like she’s older to keep up with school, sports and her life outside school. While other people think that high is all fun Chavez thinks it’s all about responsibility, taking care of her brothers, keeping up with her grades, and being in sports all at once. “I feel stressed because it was not easy to get to the point I’m on right now” Chavez said.

Chavez is not an ordinary teen who parties or likes to go out; she stays home playing the role of her mom to her little brothers since her mom isn’t around that much. It’s been very difficult for her since she was facing family problems; that for her age, she shouldn’t have.

“It’s been really difficult for me because I was full of problems that a girl my age shouldn’t have”, Chavez said.

“The best part about struggling to get where I am is to see your loved ones are proud of you and the worst part is that it could be very stressful,” Chavez said.

Chavez thinks it has been so difficult because she decide to get all her classes AP to bring her GPA up in order to graduate with honors from Bowie.

One of her top goals after she graduates, is to go to college and make some money for her family and be a great example for her little brothers.

“The most difficult thing to handle was seeing my family struggle a lot with financial problems that is why I push myself to get good grades in school, to get a good scholarship for college in order to get a good job and help my family with that”.

Chavez struggles a lot but you will never hear her complain or see her give up. Her first worry is and always be her little brothers. You will always see Chavez leaving home early so she could drop off her brothers at the bus stop. Chavez is also the first one to leave soccer practice so she could get home, feed her brothers, and help them with their homework as she does hers as well.

“Being in a sport helps me get some of the stress out”, Chavez said.
