Homecoming assembly offers entertainment for students and community

This year’s assembly was not only unique and may have even left a historic mark for the 90th anniversary.  It can be assured that this year’s homecoming assembly was just as exciting as expected and more.

As always the assembly opened with student activity director Mr. Sam Attel’s introduction to the assembly pumping up cheers from the student body and then proceeding to introduce JROTC honorguard with the pledge recited by master of ceremony Azzle Salais, 12.

Salais has been the emcee of the pep rallies.

“It was really fun and everything, I just really had a lot a fun describing everything and announcing everything,” Salais said.

JROTC took center stage with their sabers as they awaited the court, something they had been practicing for weeks after school. Sergeant major Valery Gisele Lopez, 12, was  in charge of carrying the Texas flag during the texas pledge said she felt honored all the work paid off.

“It feel really good ,one fills themselves with pride and happiness to be in a position so important,” Lopez said.

  Finally the Homecoming court was presented . Beginning with freshmen princess April Ortega walking up the stage; followed soon after was sophomore princess Ana Castaneda and junior princess Maria Madrid concluded the underclass court. The senior side saw lady-in-waiting Ashely Rojas, princess Ashely Arellano along with senior king Paulo Hernandez and last but not least Homcoming queen Jocelyn Alvarado took the last seat.

To present Bowie’s 2017  Homecoming queen’s award a member of the alumni association congratulated the queen in a short speech

Bowie’s dance team gave various types of performances through the rest of the assembly along with a small concert from the mariachi’s Osos Orgullosos and as always a demonstration from the cheerleaders.

King Hernandez and princess Arellano even left the stage to dance with the Just Dance crew and Danzantes de Corazon, a young folklorico group from El Paso, made an appearance.
